TECHNICAL DIVING COURSES

About IANTD Advanced Nitrox

The IANTD Advanced Nitrox program covers the core skills from the technical diver training programs including the use of dual outlet single cylinders or twinsets with central isolation manifolds and decompression skills and procedures using bottom mixes up to 40% nitrox and decompression mixes up to 100% oxygen to a maximum depth of 140 fsw (42 msw).

Advanced Nitrox (EANx) is designed to extend the diver’s knowledge in the use of EANx for Sport diving. It further develops skills and provides a greater understanding of the EANx concept of diving.

Advanced Nitrox (EANx) qualifies divers to do dive to 140 fsw (42 msw) and do decompression stops required dives up to 15 minutes using Nitrox blend greater than 40% for accelerated decompression.

A rebreather is a breathing device that recycles a divers exhaled breath, scrubs it clean of carbon dioxide and recycles that same breath so that the diver may use it over and over through out their dive. Rebreathers are different from open circuit SCUBA, because rather than exhaling the waste product (carbon dioxide) as bubbles!

*NOTE* Please keep in mind that each CCR course is specific to a particular rebreather unit. There is no general CCR course.

The IANTD Recreational Trimix Diver program provides Sport Divers with a safer breathing medium within the depth limits of sport diving (130 fsw/39 msw), whilst utilizing helium to give an Equivalent Narcotic Depth (END) of between 40 and 80 fsw (12 and 24 msw). The diver may elect to dive the ‘mix’ on IANTD Recreational Trimix tables or computers.

The IANTD Recreational Trimix Diver program may be taught as a single course or combined with a variety of IANTD Advanced or Specialty Diver programs. The program qualifies divers to perform no stop dives using Recreational Trimix Gas mixtures within the limits of the existing qualification level to a maximum depth limit of 130 fsw (39 msw).

The program covers all Recreational Trimix gas mixes from 28% to a maximum of 40% oxygen and Helium concentrations yielding an END no greater than 80 fsw (24 msw) emphasizing the use of 30/25 trimix.

This program is designed for those individuals already involved in deep diving activities, but is not intended to be used as an enticement to divers who are content to remain in Sport or EANx diving limits. Trimix affords a safer means for deep-water exploration for divers who dive deep or perform with a clear head at depth. The IANTD Trimix Diver Program requires the diver to be self-sufficient/reliant. The knowledge and skills taught in this program are more than adequate to qualify divers to perform Trimix Dives outside of training up to 333 fsw (100 msw).

The IANTD Normoxic Trimix Diver program is designed to train divers who wish to dive to depths between 39 and 60 msw (130 and 200 fsw), but do not wish to breathe air below 39 msw (130 fsw). Trimix affords a means of managing nitrogen narcosis by reducing the Equivelent Narcotic Depth (END) to a maximum of 36 msw (120 fsw).

The IANTD Normoxic Trimix Diver program includes academic lectures, skills development and open water dives using air, EANx or Trimix using one gas switch. Gas switching computers can be used (and are recommended) but IANTD tables must be used as a backup.

This program qualifies divers to perform Trimix dives to a maximum depth of 200 fsw using custom bottom mixes with a minimum oxygen content of 19% and a maximum of two decompression cylinders.

Prerequisites:

  • Must be qualified as an IANTD Advanced EANx Diver or IANTD Advanced Recreational Trimix Diver
  • Must provide proof of a minimum of 100 logged dives, of which at least 30 were deeper than 90 fsw or sufficient experience doing technical dives to satisfy the instructor that the student has the ability and knowledge to continue into this level of training
  • Must be 18 years of age

About Advanced Recreational Trimix

This Program is designed to extend the diver’s knowledge in the use of EANx for Sport diving. It further develops diving skills and provides a greater understanding of the EANx concept of diving. It is also intended to supplement the skills of Recreational Trimix Divers.

The purpose of this program is to qualify divers to dive up to 170 fsw (51 msw) and perform decompression stops required dives up to 15 minutes using Trimix as a breathing medium.

  • Must have a minimum of 100 dives, of which at least 30 were deeper then 90 ft.
  • Must be a minimum of 18 years of age
Additional Information
  • Gear approval is needed before entering the water (if already owned).  Contact us for more details.

  • Student is responsible for gases.

The PADI Tec 40 course is where you transition from recreational scuba diving to technical diving. It’s a great place to start because it’s the first subdivision of the full PADI Tec Diver course and bridges the gap between no stop diving and full technical deep decompression diving. You gain experience and begin building the knowledge and skills you need to continue your tec diver training. You will qualify to make limited decompression dives to 40 metres/130 feet.

To enroll in the Tec 40 course, you must be:

Equipment Requirements:

When transitioning into technical diving, it’s important to have your own equipment that you can start developing comfort and muscle memory with. You will need some kind of redundant gas source (sidemount, backmounted doubles, a single tank with a dual outlet valve, two complete regulator sets, etc.).

Scheduling:

The dates you book for are just place-holder dates. This course requires a minimum of 5 dives, which will need to be organized with the instructor. Once you book, we will put you in contact with the instructor so you may organize dates that work for both of you.

The PADI Tec 45 course is the second part of the full PADI Tec Deep Diver program. You’ll extend your depth limit to 45 metres/145 feet and learn to plan and execute repetitive decompression dives using a single stage/decompression cylinder. It puts you in a complete tec diving rig, which can be either backmount or sidemount. You’ll also make accelerated decompression dives using EANx or pure oxygen. This is a course where you’ll rise to the challenge and make the commitment to become a technical diver.

To enroll in the Tec 45 course, you must:

  • Be a PADI Tec 40 diver
  • Be a PADI Rescue Diver
  • Have a minimum of 50 logged dives, with at least 12 dives on enriched air nitrox deeper than 18 metres/60 feet and 6 dives deeper than 30 metres/100 feet
  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Have a Medical Statement signed by a physician within the last 12 months

The third part of the full PADI Tec Deep Diver program is Tec 50. As a Tec 50 diver, you show that you’ve developed competency as a tec diver and have the skills to dive to a maximum of 50 metres/165 feet. You know how to make extended, accelerated decompression stops using up to two gases. It’s not easy to reach this level and earning your Tec 50 certification opens the door to deeper diving expeditions.

To enroll in the Tec 50 course, you must:

  • Be a PADI Tec 45 diver
  • Have a minimum of 100 logged dives, with at least 20 dives on enriched air nitrox deeper than 18 metres/60 feet and 15 dives deeper than 30 metres/100 feet
  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Have a Medical Statement signed by a physician within the last 12 months
